The Association of Issuing Bodies (AIB) is the international nonprofit association facilitating the market of guarantees of origin (GOs) in Europe. AIB provides the EECS standard for GOs for different energy carriers, which has been implemented in 28 European countries so far. AIB also operates a European hub for transferring GOs, thereby linking the national GO registries, which is now also open for gas GOs. The annual value of the European GO market for 2023 is estimated at over 4 billion euro.

Panel Discussion: Market Perspectives on Guarantees of Origin
Panel Discussion: Market Perspectives on Guarantees of Origin
  • 11:15 - 12:15
  • 60 min
  • Room 25, First Floor

Topic:

Guarantees of Origin (GOs) are the sole instrument confirming the origin of electricity from renewable energy sources (RES). GOs are gaining popularity among Polish and foreign entities year by year. Increasingly, both exchange and over-the-counter transactions involving GOs are taking place on European markets. Poland's fate regarding accession to the Association of Issuing Bodies (AIB), which gathers entities responsible for issuing GOs, is still pending.
In this panel, we will discuss the benefits of Polish consumers and producers' membership in AIB and when this may happen, as well as whether there is an alternative. Additionally, electricity consumers will present to what extent they utilize Guarantees of Origin and whether it is necessary in their case.
